ABOUT ME

A CONSTANT EXPLORATION

I find it difficult to write "about me" and not just make the whole thing about acting and singing, but as they say, you are not your resume, so... my name is Joseph Paul, but I go by Joey, and I love acting, but I also love other things! I love my family (mom, dad, brother, bonus mom, bonus brother 1 & 2, bonus sister, bonus foreign exchange sister, dogs [all]). I love learning. I love being an advocate for folks in the arts. I love reading and writing (I am currently putting in the effort to be good at journaling). You can always find me listening to an audio book or podcast while finding another new project to start in my apartment. I spend most of my free-time with my partner, Scotty, and our way-cooler-than-me friends. I love the video game series Kingdom Hearts quite a lot, but don't play too many other video games. I love watching movies, documentaries, and video essays on YouTube. I consider myself a student of history and an amateur historian, particularly of the last 125-years or so, and love to learn and read any and everything to do with how and why the world is the way that it is. I love anime, and I'm currently obsessed with Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, and mid-re-watch of all of Inuyasha, but my favorite since I was 4-years-old is Dragon Ball Z. My day job is as the head of marketing for Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC), a professional non-profit theatre with a focus on contemporary plays, supporting and developing living playwrights, and creating opportunities for artists in our community. I started acting at SLAC in 2016, and joined the team full-time in 2022, and it's the coolest, best place in the world. I recently celebrated the 1-year anniversary of the DnD campaign that I'm currently involved in with Scottty and three of our best friends. I play a high elf sorcerer named Lloy'd and I'm convinced he's the coolest high elf who has ever lived. My favorite words are calliope (a Greek muse, and the instrument used to create carousel music) because it feels so nice and pretty to say, and cacophony (a harsh, discordant mixture of sounds, like plates shattering on the floor) because it is a pretty word for a not-particularly pretty thing. As I write this, I am drinking a hot, oat milk vanilla latte with a pump of lavender because it's delicious and I think I've convinced the baristas at my local coffee shop that I order it because it's so good, not because I'm terribly pretentious, but also more than one thing can be true at the same time. That's what I can think to say about myself and this is already far too long! I hope I have the chance to meet you someday!

TTFN!
